An Official Court Reporter is responsible for the verbatim reporting of proceedings held before United States District Judges and Magistrate Judges and for the transcription of those proceedings upon request. Court Reporter positions and continued employment of court reporters are subject to available funding supplied by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
Duties:
- Attend and record verbatim court sessions for both civil and criminal proceedings; read back portions of court record as required.
- Provide transcripts within the time and cost limitations set by the Judicial Conference; electronically file with the Clerk of Court a copy of all transcripts prepared concurrently with delivery to the requesting parties.
- Provide transcripts and/or real-time feed to the Court upon request, without charge.
- Perform such administrative duties as required, such as billing for transcripts, financial and other record keeping, preparation and filing of required Administrative Office reports, and responding to official correspondence and telephone calls.
- Maintain and safeguard records until they are disposed of according to statutory requirement and Judicial Conference policy.
- Work well under pressure and produce transcripts within strict time limitations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office environment and on the Senate floor with exposure to everyday risks and discomforts, and requires the use of normal safety precautions. Work requires frequent walking, prolonged standing, bending, and carrying items up to 25 pounds with the use of a shoulder harness and tray; extensive reading and computer use; regular use of typical office equipment, software programs, and methods of communication such as a computer, email, telephone, and photocopier. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required for performance of duties. Work also requires physical presence in the office, except as otherwise required by the Office of the Secretary of the Senate. This position is tied to the Senate Floor schedule and requires working extended and unscheduled hours as dictated by the Senate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work requires a high school diploma and either state court reporter certification or National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) certification with a minimum of seven years of professional field experience; and the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Basic knowledge of the Senate as an institution, Senate procedures and organization, congressional documents/terminology, and the legislative process preferred, with a desire and willingness to learn more about the history and operation of the Senate.
Knowledge of parliamentary procedure and ability to report proceedings accurately while ensuring material conforms to parliamentary procedure.
Knowledge of American history and current events.
Knowledge of English, including grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, and vocabulary.

The Second Judicial District is accepting applications for a full-time Official Stenographic or Electronic Court Reporter for Judge Designee Der Yang. In this position you will work directly with Judge Der Yang who is assigned to a criminal rotation and chambered at the Ramsey County Courthouse, 15 W Kellogg Blvd., St Paul, MN 55102.
This is highly responsible technical work. The primary functions are to capture a verbatim record of court proceedings using a stenographic machine or electronic court reporting equipment and to prepare and distribute transcripts in accordance with rules of court, opinions, state statutes, legal guidelines, and policies. Additionally, the court reporter serves as the appointing authority's confidential assistant. The court reporter exercises independent judgment as related to the duties of maintaining the record. Work is reviewed and evaluated by the appointing authority.
This position supports Judge Der Yang and promotes the court's mission of providing justice through a system that assures equal access for the fair and timely resolution of cases and controversies.
Regular hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30. This position will require the ability to work full-time during these hours.
This is a hybrid role working both on-site and remotely, depending on business needs and a reliable internet connection will be required when working remotely.
Responsibilities
The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position.

Minimum Qualifications
A person seeking employment for the position of Official Stenographic Court Reporter must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
2. Graduation from a court reporting school approved by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) within the past two years; or
3. Compliance with one of the following:
a) Received a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) designation from the NCRA; or
b) Received an equivalent certification from another state or territory of the United States, or professional court reporter association; or - c) Have been practicing proficiently as a professional stenographic reporter for the past two (2) years and within one (1) month of hire, accurately take a minimum of 20 minutes of court proceedings alongside a stenographic court reporter who has an RPR designation or certification as provided in clauses (a) or (b), and then produce a transcript with 95% accuracy to successfully complete this requirement. as described in (d) below; or
d) Obtain RPR designation from the NCRA within two years of hire. Pending receipt of the RPR designation, must, within one (1) month of hire, accurately take a minimum of 20 minutes of court proceedings alongside a stenographic court reporter who has an RPR designation or certification as provided in clauses (a) or (b), and then produce a transcript. The participating RPR certified stenographer will determine that Ninety-five (95) percent accuracy is achieved to successfully complete this requirement.
A person seeking employment for a position of Official Electronic Court Reporter must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
2. Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed in the classification specification; and
3. Compliance with one of the following within three months of prior to hire:
a) Receive an Electronic Court Reporter certificate from the State Court Administrator, or
b) Receive an Electronic Court Reporter Certification and an Electronic Transcriber Certification from the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT); or
c) Receive an Electronic Court Reporter certification from an accredited court reporter school.

Salary: $28.01-$29.42 per hour, depending on experience
Position Purpose:
The position reports, transcribes, and serves as the guardian of the verbatim stenographic record of official proceedings in an accurate, impartial, and confident manner. Duties may include:
- Attending court sessions and providing verbatim reporting on those proceedings to ensure justice is upheld and provides the necessary written verbatim record as to whether procedures, laws, and statues were appropriately followed in order to determine whether a decision should be upheld or reversed.
- Transcribing and producing transcripts requested by the Judge and other court personnel in regard to proceedings that have been reported.
- Scheduling the Judge's court calendar to ensure hearings and trials are held in a timely manner and does not conflict with the other court schedule/events.
- Preparing correspondence, answering the telephone and taking messages, and resonding to attorneys' or parties' inquiries on behalf of the Judge to ensure timely responses.
- Performing other work as assigned depending on the Circuit/Judge.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited or non-accredited court reporting school with a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification and the ability to type 225 words per minute with 95% accuracy. South Dakota Notary Public is required to swear in witnesses in the courtroom. No experience is necessary.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation is required for employment.
5% increase in salary after successful completion of CRR (Certified Real-time Reporter) certification.
The fee for the preparation of a transcript from a court reporter's notes of evidence is $3.60 per page for the original. The fee for a copy, furnished on request, is $0.65 per page, to be paid to the officer of the court who prepared the transcript. Depending on the location transcript work can be moderate to extensive. Court reporters may be allowed to freelance and perform outside depositional work that does not involve the recording and/or transcribing of official judicial system court proceedings outside of normal office hours and for additional compensation as court calendars permit.

Position Overview:
The District of New Mexico has an opportunity for an Official Court Reporter to provide realtime reporting services for the Albequerque divisional office.
Court Reporters are employed by the court en banc and serve at the pleasure of the Court. Court Reporters must comply with the requirements of the Judicial Conference of the United States and the Plan of Management of Court Reporting Services for the District of New Mexico. Successful applicant will report to the Supervisory Court Reporter located in Las Cruces.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend and record verbatim reporting of proceedings held before judicial officers as specified by statute, rule, or order of the Court, and provide transcripts of those proceedings upon requests.
- Produce accurate, simultaneous realtime transcription utilizing computer-aided transcription (CAT)
- Maintain accurate and legible records of time, attendance, transcript production, and earnings which are subject to audits. Complete and submit all reports as directed by the Judicial Conference.

Minimum Required Experience/Qualifications:
- At least one year of prime court reporting experience in a freelance field of service, in other courts, or a combination thereof (e.g., depositions, adversary proceedings before a presiding official, grand jury proceedings).
- Be qualified by testing for listing on a registry of professional reporters (RPR) of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or have passed an equivalent qualifying examination (evidence must be provided).
- Must be able to provide realtime reporting to judge and possess all necessary realtime equipment and software. Realtime certification is preferred, however, candidates who are capable of providing realtime and are actively working toward certification will also be considered.
- Applicants holding a Certificate of Merit from the NCRA are preferred.
Salary Levels:
Official court reporters are paid an annual salary as below, depending upon qualifications and experience, plus transcript fees established by the Judicial Conference.
